The Director, Philanthropy is responsible for maintaining an assigned portfolio of partners with a focus on, but not limited to, donors in British Columbia and Alberta, planning and executing major gifts engagement strategies, and directly soliciting multi-year commitments.

Operation Smile is a volunteer-based global medical charity that provides free surgery to repair cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial differences in children and young adults. We are active more than 30 countries around the world.
Over 6,000 volunteer medical professionals including credentialed surgeons, pediatricians, doctors, nurses, child-life specialists and many others, selflessly give their expertise to help patients and ensure the highest standard of care in all that we do.
Through our medical and education programs around the world and guided by our Medical Global Standards, we are at the forefront of enabling local communities in low- and middle-income countries to provide safe surgery because we believe access to safe surgery is a basic right.

The Director, Philanthropy is responsible for maintaining an assigned portfolio of partners with a focus on, but not limited to, donors in British Columbia and Alberta, planning and executing major gifts engagement strategies, and directly soliciting multi-year commitments.
As part of a national team, you must have a proven track record of working successfully with remote colleagues and partners. This role involves managing a portfolio of partner relationships, with some travel and frequent in-person meetings. This is your opportunity to make a significant impact on global communities!

Key Responsibilities
Revenue Generation, Identification and Cultivation
- Identify, cultivate, and directly solicit prospective individual, major gift donors and corporate partners.
- Actively promote opportunities for increased partner engagement (including Planned Giving).
- Participate in Philanthropy Team strategy, prospect review and pipeline management meetings.
- Exercise strong relational and interpersonal skills by connecting with partners through phone calls and in-person visits.
- Create proposals, pitch decks, gift agreements, reports and other written correspondence.
Planning, Donor Engagement and Reporting
- Tailoring individual stewardship plans, optimize a partner’s experience by making sure they receive milestone updates and impact reporting, appropriate invitations to engage with the organization and ensure simple actions such as timely delivery of charitable tax receipts are undertaken.
- Build relationships with Operation Smile Canada donor partners and prospective partners to secure major gifts.
- Diligently maintain and update donor database (Raiser's Edge / RE NXT), recording all donor interactions, proposals, and actions promptly and accurately.

- High-touch relational skills and your consistent and proactive approach to donor outreach.
Qualifications and Experience Required
- A combination of education and relevant work experience.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a strong ability to influence and engage diverse audiences.
- Experience relating to people in diverse contexts to quickly build trust and rapport.
- Proficiency in digital technologies including video conferencing, social media, and Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint is essential.
- Experience using donor or CRM databases, specifically a preference to Raiser's Edge and NXT.
- Knowledge of prospect research tools and techniques. IWave experience an asset.
- Proficiency in a second language is considered an asset.
- Proven experience building and developing a major gift portfolio.

Compensation
- The hiring range for this role is $80,000-$110,000.
