Chief Executive Officer, Medical Ministry International
Position is Filled for this Role
About the Organization
Medical Ministry International’s (MMI) roots trace back to 1969 when two organizations, Christian Medical Society (CMS-USA) and Evangelical Medical Missionary Aid Society (EMMAS-Canada) began one and two week medical missions to provide essential medical care to underserved persons in foreign countries. MMI now provides life changing medical services in 23 countries. MMI’s ethos is best described by its Mission and Values statements:
Mission Statement
Medical Ministry International (MMI) is an opportunity to serve Jesus Christ by providing spiritual and compassionate health care in this world of need.
Values Statement
We seek to be people of integrity and good character as we strive to serve with excellence.
We seek to be faithful stewards & accountable of all that God has provided Medical Ministry International.
Medical Ministry International’s Strategy to Health Care Development
Establish and support long term relationships with local teams in developing countries with the goal of increasing access to affordable, quality health care. MMI’s goal is to foster mutual respect and healthy inter-dependence with our in-country partners; devoting substantial time and resources to understanding and bridging cultural differences by focusing on the common ground of selfless service to others.
MMI’s focuses on modeling best practices to its in-country partners. Clinical discipline, financial and accounting consistency, and adequate staffing are central to our relationship with our healthcare partners. As teams grow and mature, they become more self-supporting. MMI promotes local team involvement with other individuals and organizations that make them more resilient and less dependent. When an in-country organization grows to the point that capital expenditures for land, buildings and equipment are warranted, MMI assists with those plans and the capital necessary to achieve growth.
One and two week large scale missions, often called “Brigades” locally, have been and continue to be the most visible tool used by MMI to lift up its local partners and provide direct service on a large scale. Project teams are planned in response to local healthcare needs, following an invitation from the local community. MMI staff and our local partners regularly partner with local churches to “get the word out” about upcoming missions and to be present during those missions to assist with clinical operations. Local church youth work side by side with MMI volunteers to provide comfort and care to our patients.
Medical Directors are central to MMI’s mission campaigns. Together with numerous skilled and “general” volunteers, MMI insures clinical standards of care conform to best medical practices, as outlined in MMI’s Standards of Operations.
Supporting Residency Training and Fellowship Programs for medical professionals to expand the skills of international doctors. MMI seeks to establish medical platforms for service and education that build medical capacity for those who need it most. MMI endeavours to establish long-term programs and facilities that address these needs.
Patients are asked to invest in their own care. When they do, they follow the doctor’s orders and treat the medicine and equipment they receive well. MMI seeks to avoid creating a paternalistic, dependence mentality.
